the original skirt didn't look too cute on me, and for some reason,
the lining kept peeping from under too, which is also not very cute.

do you like mullet skirts?
if only my skirt is a little bit longer, it would be perfect!
paisley print, so delicate and pretty
DIY mullet skirt (almost no sew):
Lay the skirt flat with the side facing you.
Estimate how short you want the front to be.
Then cut a curve from the front of the skirt all the way to the back.
You don't need to hem it if the fabric doesn't fray.
As for the skirt lining, cut a straight line across.

Love the print but love the colour more!!! Have a safe and enjoyable trip!
ReplyDeletemongs, it looks wonderful on you! another refashion that looks oh so much better than it did before you worked your magic. i adore your outfit too. have lots of fun on your famaily vacation. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome!!!! I am glad I made you inspired to do the same thing as well. :) The material is just perfect for it. :) I am always loving your thrift treasures as well. :)
ReplyDeleteWow Mongs! That is a great refashion. The print IS really pretty and the floaty fabric is well suited to this look.
ReplyDeleteWow amazing! I wish i had your insight and skill to fix my clothes!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this! I tried it a few weeks ago on a skirt, but I didn't hem it and I felt like a criminal or something being out in the world unhemmed. So my friend she'd do it for me in a couple days if I played with her kids to keep them busy while she hemmed my skirt. Easy deal! Can't wait!
ReplyDelete--TS
I think it's just right! You did a great job on it especially since this skirt had a lining. It looks much better!
ReplyDeleteWhat a change! I love the addition of the belt too. Haven't done much with mixing prints yet. I will have to venture out.
ReplyDeleteFantastic job pattern mixing. Yes, lots of prints this summer, and I cannot wait!
ReplyDeleteSeattle Beauty Fashion Blog
nice job! I'm actually wearing an asymmetrical DIY dress right now and totally want to refashion more and more skirts and dresses and even tops :P
ReplyDeletenow, when it comes to your skirt I love the pattern and the colour scheme. it's so pretty for summer. and you have really nailed the look by adding some stripes and a fierce waist-belt!
ps. I hope your vacation will be outstandingly amazing! :)

ReplyDeleteEnjoy your vacation!
AwayFromTheBlue.blogspot.com.au
Mongs, you are looking very cute in this outfit ! Did you get a haircut ?
ReplyDeleteI love it when skirts flow a little with the gentle breeze and it is possible only when you have a mullet shaped skirt. The color and the softness of the fabric is also perfect for summer, I feel. It is indeed good to see you refashioning a long skirt {which is quite heavy and useless in summer} into something very wearable .
The white shoes are doing full justice to the look.
I will be waiting for your new post once you come back from your holidays:-)
Enjoy your vacation!
Love and hugs,

Hey Mongs, do you want to come to Boston and fix/re-invent all my old clothes? OK, thanks :) You are amazing - love that skirt!

The skirt is so pretty! Great job on doing that yourself!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.themirroronthewall.com/
That print is so pretty. Good eye picking it out.
ReplyDeleteWow, another great remake! And a brave one with that kind of fabric. I tried to do a hi-lo on a thrifted skirt and then tried to hem it. It was such a mess. So bravo to your sewing skills again! And what a great print!
ReplyDeleteIt looks really cute now! Hate it when the lining on skirts does that. I love the seafoam colour and would never have thought of pairing it with stripes, but it goes so well!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up xx
It looks great! I am quite partial to "mullet" skirts (or, as I prefer, 'asymetrical hemline :D) because my wedding dress had it!
ReplyDeleteSigh of envy. Another fabulous do-over - it looks great!
ReplyDeleteAs always, I am awed by your creativity. I love that skirt. Most mullet skirts and dresses aren't suited for the office, although I do have one midi-length mullet dress i didn't try on from a clearance rack, and didn't realize it was a mullet skirt until I got home :p But it's a lot longer, so I can sneak it work :)
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous. You are such a talent! The print and color of the skirt are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteSuch a PRETTY skirt! I love it when you're just skimming the racks and a pattern jumps out at you and it ends up being something you like (or in your case, something you can work with :-) ) I like how you're wearing it with the belt!
ReplyDeleteAlly @ Fever Thrift
Wow, i love this - great job!! Such a pretty silhouette.

Great re-fashion!!! I'm definitely in love with the high-low trend.
ReplyDeleteI love the mix of patterns! Great job.
ReplyDeleteI seriously need to learn how to do alterations. I love how you changed up the skirt into something trendy. It looks amazing, and I love the pattern mix! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat refashion as always! I have never tried a mullet skirt, but this one is lovely. Perfect color mint too - totally on trend right now! And I love this with the striped top!
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing Mongs! How brilliant to make something so current!
ReplyDeleteAnother fabulous idea! I love a mullet skirt or dress
ReplyDeleteThe pattern is indeed real pretty
No hemming that is a plus!
Have a great day!

What a great refashion, Mongs!! Seriously. Great idea. I do like the mullet trend (on skirts and dresses, I mean) but I have yet to purchase anything with that cut. Have a super fun vacation!!

I've been wondering if I'm too short to pull off that look - you've given me the encouragement to try it out! I'll have to keep my eye open for a cute skirt to refashion when I hit up the thrift stores this weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou are a doll personified. This outfit and refashion is amazing and you are just awesome. dawn suitcase vignettes xo
ReplyDeletecute!
ReplyDeleteI love the hi-lo trend (it took me awhile, but I'm firmly on board now) and love the idea of doing the trend myself even more. This is great and you look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteMullet skirt...LOL Love it!!
ReplyDelete♥ Shia
Thank you so much for sharing how you did the refashion. It looks like it was created that way. I have a top I would like to do this to.

If I don't have to sew I'm in! :) Something so simple as changing the hem line really transformed this skirt- it looks beautiful and perfect for spring! It's 'our' belt! :)
ReplyDeleteI love how you refashioned this skirt, it looks fantastic as a "mullet" skirt. (Love the pretty color and the pattern.) I also love how you wore this, the skirt looks so lovely with your striped top and that belt is just plain cool. ^_^
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to make out of this rather "boring" skirt a very fashionable and trendy piece!!!

ReplyDeleteI love what you did to the skirt, you have just inspired me to do the same to some of my old skirts!!
ReplyDeleteI love your belt and what a great idea. I see this style of skirt all the time at the thrift store and never thought to do that. Brilliant. Have fun on your vacation!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful color - love the high-low transformation!
ReplyDeleteWell since we're blogger friends I'll be completely honest.

Mongs. Also like the ring!!!

ReplyDeleteNo one like you to re-fashion stuff!! You are a master on that... looove it Mongs

This is a great refashion! You have a good eye for seeing how a 90s item has value (nice print and fabric) and making it modern. I wouldn't have thought to put that particular belt, top and skirt together, but they work really well!! Despite being chunky, the belt manages to not overwhelm the other pieces. The buckle plays up the nautical vibe of your top.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, what does Hi-thrift mean? Purchased from a more high-end thrift store?
That's lovely! Simple, but lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented! It was beautiful before and later even better! Loved the belt too, and the shoes - of cooourse! Hope your vacations were great!
ReplyDeleteawesome mongs! you created a hi/lo skirt. i love paisley. i love when you find those little treasures that can be re-fashioned! oh if everyone could do it. lol you look great doll!
